The Fifth Edition of my bestselling book about HTML, XHTML, and CSS has recently been published. You can find more information at http://www.cookwood.com/html/ The new version of Elizabeth Castro's bestselling guide to HTML was published in October, 1999 by Peachpit Press. It's called HTML 4 for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide, Fourth Edition. Its ISBN is 0-201-35493-4.This new Fourth Edition covers the complete HTML specifications (version 4) as well as Cascading Style Sheets, level 2. In addition, Netscape- and Internet Explorer-specific extensions are also described in detail. As hundreds of thousands of readers can attest to, this HTML book is special. Each page is devoted to a single topic and displays both the HTML code that is being discussed as well as an illustration of what it should look like in a browser. You quickly get up to speed by writing your own code and comparing your results to the book's illustrations. Most pages offer extra tips for getting the most out of your HTML code. HTML 4 for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide, Fourth Edition, is carefully and completely indexed to make it easy to find the topic you're interested in, whether you're learning it for the first time, or want a quick reference for some forgotten syntax. The numerous cross-references throughout the book make it easy to find out more about related topics. In short, the book is a carefully-constructed, well-designed, succinct, easy-to-read (whew!) guide to writing your own HTML code.
The completely updated Forms chapter now includes CGI scripts so that you can process your forms. And if you're not ready to take the plunge into CGI, you'll appreciate the new sections on submitting form data via e-mail. I've also gone through and checked each tag with the current versions (on both Mac and Windows) of both Netscape Communicator and Internet Explorer to see which tags work with which browsers--so you don't have to. This Fourth Edition also includes completely updated chapters on basic HTML, text formatting, creating and using images, links and anchors, lists, frames, forms, multimedia, HTML tools, special symbols and colors. Check out the Table of Contents and the Index for a complete rundown of what you'll find in the book.
And you've already found the second companion Web site. It's right here at Cookwood Press. You can find out what's new on my Web site on the News page. I'll be writing some new, hopefully pertinent articles. Check out what fellow readers are creating in the gallery. Ask a question on my Question and Answer boards. Consult the hexadecimal color chart or a browser safe color chart. Read reviews, personal mentions, and see which colleges and universities use my book as a text.
